I use weblog expert lite, i got it for free. but i'd prefer something that auto updates or tracks in real time whatever the log file spits out.
i assume there is something like this out there. I guess i could just hit refresh on the log file all the time but i thought maybe there was something more sophisticated out there.
free would be a big plus, as would geographical tracking.
thanks. travis. |

I'll try it out if i get the chance. it seemed a little difficult when i first tried it but i'll read their instructions.
I guess what i was hoping for was something simple that tracked in real time so i could watch without refreshing the log and just watch what pages they hit. sort of like a "spy" type of deal
but, i realize this would probably work only for sites like mine which get very little traffic.
thanks again. if anybody knows of something like what i explained, let me know and i'd appreciate it. travis.
if there was a software that would play a sound on my computer for each time a page was downloaded, that would be something.
I know it's not a crazy idea because somebody already made one:
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Network_and_Internet/Misc__Server_Tools/Site_Sounds.html
but it's not available anywhere. i did archive.org and got the program (trial), and the email address. so far the trial didn't work. i've emailed them so i'll report back if i hear anything. but if anyone else knows of one like it please let me know. |

I found it to be useful. the highlighting feature is also good to have. I would still enjoy a option to have a sound play so i could hear when someone hits a page, and i would also enjoy being able to grab the ip and paste it into a geographical locator. basically i just have to open the line of code which is only one more step.
Is awstats going to show me the geographic location of the ip address?
or if there is a program i can just use that will ferret out all the ip addresses from my logs and then another program or website like this one:
http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp
to where i can find out in one shot many ip addresses at once.
Basically if you can't find one or know of one i have a way (quickmacros), and using the - - that comes after the ip i can do a relatively quick extraction, and then deduplicate in excel (if i remember how).
lastly i just checked and the ip locator service above is only for 20 ips a day. anybody know of a big and free or almost free database or ip locator service where i can check more than one ip at a time? thanks
thanks.
thanks. |

For these kind of services, you'll have to pay money. I don't think you'd find it worth the price.
I like to use http://dnsstuff.com. I don't know if they have a limit to requests per day.
Also, did you see this page? If you fill it out, they'll let you do 200 requests per day --> http://www.ip2location.com/demoaccount.aspx _________________ Stephen

I like it that it beeps, and highlights, i think it will work great for me.
i also signed up to get the free 200 ip locations per day. It's pretty good too.
thanks much. travis. |
