Is there a way to add hdd's from other computers on LAN to the Abyss server? The shared drive volumes doesn't appear in Abyss, so I've tried using starwind and iSCSI Target setup, but this is a rather bothersome method..

Isn't there another way to do this?

If you have a mapped network location, you can use set up aliases or the path for a host to those locations.

Like creating a shortcut to the network location?

cause the mapped network drives doesn't appear in Abyss.. Only the local drives. Under Aliases... when adding real path..

so... what exactly do you mean by "mapped network location"?

Are you using Linux or Windows?

On Windows you can map a network drive to a letter, then you can setup Abyss to use that (drive) letter.

Using Windows... Yes but like I said Abyss doesn't find those shared/mapped network drives. Abyss seems to only see the local partitions.. on that computer..

Check this out and you'll get what I mean:

Try manually putting the drive letter/path in the blank instead of browsing for it.

as far as i know abyss will do what you want you will need to have the list below

1 a map network drive.
2 a good working abyss copy
3 the work to be done below
i got a windows 2000 pro server & them you will have to @ drive maping log in with you log in with that pc login so when maping login useing dif user log in with that pc user name & password & put a mark in reconect @ login some windows is funny like that ok now all that out of the way i see in the pic's above you got stuff like j$ arthur U: ok in abyss you shoud see drive U: i do not know the prob there is why you don't but you should but any case try to do it like this say you got somthing in drive U: you want
on the server try in the real path U:\ & give it and Aliase /files
that should work if not i do not know what the prob is i have did it on abyss with a network storeg unit simpletec so i know it work even with the old stuff& the new stuff

This may sound a stupid question, but the network drives are mapped on the computer running abyss aren't they?

Your mapped network drives may not be available to Abyss because the Abyss process uses a different set of credentials (and therefore a different set of privileges) than what you have on your logon account IF your Abyss runs as an OS service. Try this URL for more insights on this matter: http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9789

Update: Instead of running Abyss as a service, try running it from
HKLM\Software\Micorosft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

I tried playing with the different access credentials for running Abyss as a service (Network Service group, Local Service group) from services.msc but they all won't work. I haven't tried running it in service mode using my logon name though.

I also tried burning a virtual drive device in the registry but I can't make it work - example: putting a REG_SZ key P: with the value "C:\Temp" in
HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\DOS Devices
I can already reach the P:\ drive from Abyss's console but I can't see any objects from inside. I was also able to see the P:\ drive in Windows Explorer but I was not able to successfully get inside it.

Hopefully, Aprelium can provide a more sensible solution to this problem.
