There's not a whole lot of info on this out there for this specific setup so I figured I'd ask here and take my chances. Took me forever to figure out that to get mysql to work to begin with required upgrading my system to High Sierra. Now that I'm there, mysql seems to be working as it should. I have Abyss working fine as well serving all pages securely.

Since I'm no sql wizard but have plenty of experience with phpMyAmin, I'm trying for the first time to add it into the mix. Having only used PMA with prebuilt stacks like XAMPP in the past, I have no clue how to get it connected properly to be able to use it with existing web sites I plan to migrate from a XAMPP server soon.

Most of the tutorials I find on the web appear to be specifically meant for use with Mac's built in Apache and sites folders.

Is there anything different that needs to be done to make this work with sites in Abyss? Thanks in advance. BTW, unless somebody can point me to an already up to date existing set of instructions on how to do this (IOW if none exists) I may use whatever help can be given here to put my own up if I can get it working.

Moonwalker,

A good recommendation is not to waste your time with tutorials and other articles trying to teach you how to set up PMA.

Just read their official docs and you'll be ready to go in less time.

PMA is not a special beast: it's a normal PHP script which requires PHP support from your Web server (https://aprelium.com/abyssws/php.html#mac) and a running instance of MySQL.

Once you have these prerequisites, download the latest stable PMA from its official Web site. Uncompress the archive inside one of your Web site document paths. Let's assume you've uncompressed it inside a subdirectory called pma which will allow you to access it using http://mysite/pma .

Now, according to https://docs.phpmyadmin.net/en/latest/setup.html#quick-install, you can either edit manually a configuration file or visit http://mysite/pma/setup to access a setup wizard to configure the MySQL server access parameters ( https://docs.phpmyadmin.net/en/latest/setup.html#using-setup-script ).

That should be it.

Thanks. I believe I have this figured out with one caveat that I will create another post on if necessary. BTW, I have severe ADD and occasional cognitive issues so sometimes I have brain cramps that cause me to forget some obvious things I already know. That's kind of what happened here. i didn't want to waste anyone's time explaining something that might already be out there so that's why I specifically asked if there is one good tutorial out there I could be pointed to rather than anyone explain here. I'm pretty sure I have it running correctly now except for a common login issue that doesn't seem to have any clear no nonsense answer. I'll post a new topic for that since it's pretty specific and not OS related.

Okay the caveat I just mentioned has also been solved. To be perfectly honest this thread isn't going to be very helpful to anyone so if you'd like to delete it entirely I think that would be a good idea. Up to you. I may be back at some point to add a post explaining the situation. Hopefully it may help someone. Thanks for the input!
