I'm at my WITS END after trying everything known to mankind to get my website (IP) viewable.

I'm running Abyss off a USB drive in Windows XP, I have Verizon DSL, a Westell 6100 modem connected to a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router.

I have port 80 forwarded on the Westell modem (which acts like a router in and of itself), I also have port 80 forwarded on the Linksys router. I can see 127.0.0.1, localhost, my computer IP (192.168.0.xxx) all just fine... "Welcome to Abyss Web Server"... Great, so far so good. But as soon as I try to access it via my WAN IP (71.116.194.16)... nothing! I've tried using many different ports and forwarding them all along the way (8000, 8080, 1234, etc.) with no such luck.

What on earth am I doing wrong?? I've set up Abyss just fine in the past, MANY-A-TIMES in the past, but this is my first time dealing with Verizon DSL and I'm almost positive that they're to blame here...

Any help? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

Your modem or router might not support loopback. Give the address to someone else when its online and get them to try it. If it works, you know thats the problem. If not its something else.

I know the router supports loopback, however I'm unsure about the modem. I did send the IP to several people last night when the server was up (it's up again now), all to no avail.

Any other thoughts?

I have the same router so I know it's not a loopback issue. ;)

Can you access your site from another computer in your network?
Make sure you have the correct computer IP in the port forwarding.

Do you have any firewall, antivirus, and/or security suites running?
Temporarily disable them to see if that could be the problem.

Also, what is the exact make/model of the Westell modem?

Nope, can't access the site (WAN IP) from another computer in the network.

Did this as well, no help.

Whoops, thought I had mentioned this in my original post, but apparently I didn't! It's the Westell 1600. Followed all the instructions on portforward.com. Still at a loss!

I'm looking for our old Linksys DSL modem to use in place of the Westell, perhaps that might fix something, but until then, I'm still going nuts over here!

Tried another port other than 80? It may be blocked.

Yup, as mentioned in my original post, I tried about 3-4 other different ports, forwarding them all along the way.

Try removing the router from the equation for now.
Double check your external IP again on www.abyssunderground.co.uk/ip
Check the port forwarding rules yet again, be sure the IP is correct.
Make sure all firwalls, including the windows firewall, are all disabled.

I know you may have done some of this already but we need to do it again.

I'll redo everything as per your suggestion, but unfortunately will have to wait until tonight to disrupt the net connection. I'll get back to you guys as soon as I've done all the above once again, and we'll go from there!

Thanks so far for the help, hopefully we can figure this out!

To see if server is internet-accessible, you can go to http://proxify.com and enter your IP address (might save you a little time).
