I downloaded the new Windows upgrade, and installed it to the existing abyss directory. The install app did not detect the existing installation or the fact that the old version was still running. I closed it manually before installing (After picking the proper directory but before pressing go) and it happily overwrote all the old files (including the config) without asking or warning about anything.
So naturally it's all gone and I'm pissed.
May I respectfully suggest the installation software is checked for a 'detect old version' bug?
Off to re-create my univers. >=(

If you install in the same old directory, the setup will detect your configuration file and ask you if you want to keep it. By the way, there is no abyss.conf that comes with the installer. Abyss.conf is created if not present by the software when launched. If found, it is just updated.
So it seems that you did something wrong with your files prior to installing. _________________ Support Team

I can personally vouch that the installer detects the older versions (well, it has for me anyways, and I've had to go between the 2 previous ones, due to windows rollback, several times) |

Well I don't know what went wrong, here's an exact description of what I did (As accurately as I can remember):
Copy install file to server PC
- Windows 98, gobsa RAM, P2/450
Run install file
- Abyss still running
- Install app does not say "please shut down server" or anything of that sort
Install app does not detect existing install directory, I select it by hand
I shut down the server manually, just in case...
Press "install"
Run new Abyss version
- creates (overwrites or updates, I can't say) .conf file
- Nothing works.
That's exactly how it happened, I don't know why, I didn't do anything weird as near as I can tell, it just didn't detect the old version. I deleted the .conf and restored a very old backup .conf file, and with the exception of my Perl install everything was back to normal. Point Abyss to the Perl directory and everything's running happily again.
Also, while I'm grumbling, on this same server Abyss asks me for my registration key every time, even tho I have one and enter it when the server starts. Perhaps there's a flaw in the way it's accessing the registry? A W98 thing? It used to work fine on an XP box... |

with new update (1.15) I noticed that it over wrote my old files even thought I told it not to, it also removed everything that i had setup like users. groups, alias, custom pages, languages, etc. It did detect the old version though. I had backups of my site so it wasn't a huge deal but it was annoying to setup everything again. _________________ -=Gatewayy=-

We'll investigate that eventhough the installation script is the same (since version 1.1) and our tests did not show that behavior. _________________ Support Team
