Hi, i occasionally get emails accepted by my: me@btconnect.com address. The email is To:

timcrick7907@aol.com

And other idiot names. The content is them bragging about the size of their tackle etc. Pathetic really.

However i dont exactly know whats going on here.

Are they using my hmailserver?
Are they using my DNS server?
Or is this stuff getting delivered some other way.

How can it be delivered to someone elses address at my address.

More importantly, what can i do to stop it.

I have Live One Care
Vista Home Premium
Simple DNS
Hmailserver

Many thanks in advance and again good luck folks.

Any advise would be apreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of email it is not possible to stop these messages arriving, but you can use spam filtering to filter out the messages.

Your email address will have been added to the BCC field which means that it won't appear in the basic email headers.

Look for the origin IP in the Advanced headers, you can spoof other peoples E-Mails quite easily with hmail, so it might not even have anything to do with your server or domain.

Apparently, you are receiving SPAM on messages that do not explicitly list you as a recipient. This is normally done with the use of BCC field upon sending.

1. They (spammers/spambots) may not need your mail server to do that.
2. They may not be using your DNS to do this either.
3. Yes, they are most likely doing this in some other way.

Once the spammers have gotten hold of your email address, ex: me@btconnect.com, you really do not have any control anymore as to the amount of email that me@btconnect.com is going to receive from them. You may want to get a new email address instead. Keep in mind though, that from thereon, you should not casually give out your email address to just any site; nor participate in mass mailings or mass email forwards - these are places where spammers harvest lots of email addresses.
