|
|
I purchased a Domain through godaddy.com and also got port forwarding and masking that works great for the address bar on top but you can still see the IP down on the bottom bar and if you go to properties of any given page you can see the IP there as well. Is there a way to mask those address' so when you go to a page on my site it reads the actuall name of the page instead of the IP address? |

I believe dyndns.org can help you out a bit... Use godaddy the way you do now to forward web request to a dyndns.org address which in turn will forward to your IP... It shouldn't say your IP in the address bar and it should'nt state it either in the status bar... But it won't say your godaddy name either...
They can mask it completely for a fee or check out http://www.mydomain.com for stealth forwarding which at least the address will never change in the URL field... It wont hide your IP from right click properties or from showing in the status bar but it will solve the URL field problem...
Give them a whirl and wait for more answers from other users... Good luck :) _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez

Godaddy.com just plain sucks its nothing but just a redirection domain service and not a IP masking domain service if you want a good domain service go with mine
here's my web site: http://www.offspringvideos.com
here's my FTP site ftp://www.offspringvideos.com
I pay $13.95 a year and they offer me great support , you can get a domain like mine at http://www.123cheapdomains.com
My domain always stays in the address bar even when i download something it says in the download pop up
Example: offspring - kid's aren't alright.zip from www.offspringvideos.com :D
These people are better than godaddy.com _________________ This web server is the best ! |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Jmstacey you say you havent had any problems with Godaddy?
here is a sample of one of my sites. This is a site for Rogue SPear, a game I like to play. Notice the IP address showing up at the bottom and the IP address showing up on the download boxes. http://www.pistolwarriors.com |

Ahh I got in and see that your IP does not show up anywhere. My question to you now is how did you do that with godaddy. I bought forwarding and masking but all it masks is the URL up top how did you do it for all URL's on the page? What are we doing differently? |

In your main frame page, you have the ip listed:
<html><head><title>www.pistolwarriors.com</title></head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">
<frame src="http://12.211.176.17/pw" frameborder="0">
<frame frameborder="0" noresize>
</frameset>
</html>
Change <frame src="http://12.211.176.17/pw" frameborder="0"> to <frame src="http://www.pistolwarriors.com/pw" frameborder="0">
I am not positive that is the problem, but I would be willing to bet on it. |

That would be it. So instead of going through your domain its going directly to you server's ip address
Just change all links to your domain name instead of ip and you should be set 8)

I hear what you guys are saying but I think its the way I set it up. Is it because I have my DOMAIN parked at godaddy.com and its just being forwarded to my IP? Would I have to use my own DNS to get it to work correctly? |

I had a zoneedit account for dns serverice (I don't have static ip)
But what I'm trying out now is www.mydomain.com paired with godaddy
$8.95 for .net domain and then the free tools from mydomain.com
(create subdomains etc.) and use mydomain.com instead of zoneedit.
Something is wrong when you can't make a link with your domain.
Can you get to your site via you domain name?

Yes I can get to my domain by typing in www.pistolwarriors.com but I cant go to www.pistolwarriors.com/links.htm or any other page directly if i type it in the URL. And also as i mentioned earlier you can see my IP on the pages. It apears that it is because I am using forwarding and masking from godaddy.com instead of linking it through DNS. |

Yeah, I was going to say that. So sign up with mydomain.com

And control your domain with them.

Thanks everyone for all your help. I think I have it figured out now. Thanks Aprelium for making Abyss free for us that cant afford $10 a month for each of our websites. My bill would be over $50 a month. |
