Looking for a purpose to give to my new website but having trouble...

Inspired by Windows Vista.. I'm telling you now.. DO NOT upgrade if you run off of the awesome XP.

Nice ;-) Little slow to load but well worth the wait. I like the flashing round windows thing on the right, very snazzy! :-)

Strange thing is, the "flashing round windows thing" looks better on the forum!!

For a start, it seems like the flashing is smoother, and you don't get the white ring around the animation on the forums

That would be leech protection.

The server allows links from Jibba Jabba's Abyss Web site site and anything at . aprelium.com.

Try copying and pasting tomsmess.com into your browser's address bar. See how that goes..

EDIT: Anti-Leeching disabled. I have nothing to protect. ^^

Just visit normally... WWW button (image) below...

Tom, why do you suggest not upgrading to Vista? Problems?

I did just that, upgrading to the 32-bit flavour of Vista Business. Ran into a problem, though, which forced me to reformat & reinstall everything.

Don't get me wrong. I have Vista 64-bit running on 2 other machines here at home, and another 32-bit Vista running on a 4th machine. They all run beautifully ..... except my web server.

The problem is, once the webserver machine boots up, both my cores climb to 100% and then stay pegged there.

I've narrowed it down to not being Abyss Web Server X2, which runs superbly under 32-bit Vista. Same goes for PHP v5.2.1

So I fear the problem is MySQL, which I need for my scripts & CMS (e107 & php-Fusion).

Can't be my hardware either, as my CPU is 3-GHz, and 2-GB of memory .... and only a half dozen visitors a week, so my system is by no means taxed.

Just wondering if you ran into problems using Vista for a web server, and what your problems were.

Thanx.

Vista is just too buggy for anything at the moment. There are very few compatable programs. Abyss 2.4 is Vista compatable so you shouldn't have issues there. Check the processes tab in task manager to see what is using the cpu to its maximum.

I wouldnt recommend Vista for anything, let alone a web server. Ill stick to XP for everything.

Andy is pretty much spot on.. before you know it, there will be hundreds of service packs zooming over our heads!

I learnt something in Commerce class yesterday. ^^
Microsoft keep bringing out new OSes to renew their competitive advantage. I'm such a smart cookie...

Actually, I've had pretty good luck with it so far. Tried a beta last summer & gave up on it. But since the (MSDN) release of Vista last November, I've been running it on 2 machines at work, and 4 machines here at home. Besides that 1 problem with both cores pegging at 100% on my webserver, I find it pretty awesome. I guess I'm adventurous.

I'm going to try install MySQL again now, but if the problem persists, it's back to XP for server.

Thanks for the input, guys, and have a great evening.

John

Don't forget to explorer and be positive when you reply!

P.S. No OS I have ever run has held my CPU at 100 for too long unless I was say burning a CD or ripping a DVD (home made originally of course).
