I have a domain name through godaddy. The web site I want to associate with it is hosted on my computer. The website is hosted on a different port (9555). What is the best way to go about having "www.mydomain.com" redirect to the website?

You could try the no-ip port 80 redirect but you get adverts on it unless you use the paid version. Putting it on port 80 is the only way around it unless you want to fork out $25 a year for no-ip's services with no ads.

If you are using a router could you not use port forwarding to route incoming port 80 data to port 9555 on the machine hosting the web server?

Regards
Chris

That would not work if his ISP blocks port 80.

Yeah. My ISP blocks port 80.

I would use No-ip and put a javascript on my page to get rid of the No-ip banners.

Here's an example of a javascript frame breaker.

I would not do this since no-ip will cancel the service if they find out. And they do find out...

RTAdams89,

You may be able to set up a redirect at a DNS service like zoneedit or at your domain holder if they have that option.

It is not an A record, but a web forward record.

Set up your domain name like:

"www.mydomain.com" forwards to 40.132.65.xx:9555

Domain name to IP address with port number.

DNS A records do not allow port numbers to be inserted into them. CNAMES might but A records do not.

No DNS record allows port numbers in it. If you need port numbers, you'll have to use a URL redirection service.
