Why aprelium use phpbb2 rather than Invision Power Board? I am sure they can afford a license for it and pay for upgrades. It features more and I am thinking of changing the forums to IPB by converting it.

Because Aprelium started off as a free software company. They did not make a profit from their software, hence they needed free BB software. IPB has no real benefits over phpBB except better spam controls and we have moderators for that now.

IPB is expensive for what it is so why buy something when there is a free BB with a few less features?

BB works pretty good! I think it has some great features, i.e. the search, new unread posts are highlighted, BBcode, post editing, PM and profile...

they wont switch now because they will lose some (if not all) the articles that have acumulated over the years. Those articles could be helpful to someone.

masa,

Money is not the problem. The problem is that IPB and PhpBB work the same way and do not help newbies (or even regular users) to find the information they need quickly. That's why we're developing a new knowledge base/discussion system that will hopefully be "smarter" than standard BB tools.

hc2995,

Why do you seem so amazed by that information? :-) We decided to swicth from PhpBB since a long time but alternatives were not matching with our expectations. So we decided to develop a custom made system based on our experience with users and customers and 5 years providing technical support.
