Don't forget that the new version allows you to pass the -d arguments. |

Okay, TRUSTAbyss, whatever that means...lol.
Is that a bonus or a hindrance? If even for a noob like me, whom thus far, has
only a small grasp on the tip of the php thing. _________________ My Abyss Websites!

Thank you Aprelium!
I've downloaded and installed the preconfigured PHP 5.2.0 version. Never done it before but it worked flawlessly thanks to the tutorials! Ya me...
Now I think I have to deal with the security issues. I bet my server is wide open now....
ANd learn about php includes etc.
Later.. _________________ Todd (Gannyaa)

I read that thread and thought it was interesting! That guy that is so reluctant to upgrade, is going to have to sooner or later, or should anyway!
I think it is a good idea to learn how to keep the PHP engine so that it can be easily upgradeable...
Especially when in the headline article of the main PHP site reads, "All users of PHP, especially those using earlier PHP 5 releases are advised to upgrade to this release as soon as possible. This release also obsoletes the 5.1 branch of PHP" (www.php.net).
From what I was able to gather (as a noob), about the -d arguments is, they provide an easy way to allow the different hosts on a server to use the same php.ini file but custom configured to each sites specifications! Is that even close TRUSTAbyss, to what the arguments are about or help to accomplish? (lol) _________________ My Abyss Websites!

The new -d arguments that can be passed, is a useful feature to use the same
php.ini while being able to change the open_basedir option for every host. |

I Asked a question in the wrong topic
Here I asked about the -d argument
http://www.aprelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=59763#59763
hope its okay to post it here where I should have....
About the -d Argument, can you pass more than one variable change?
Where...in the abyss host console
Arguments: -d safe_mode=on;open_basedir=c:\my documents\my web;doc_root=C:\My Documents\My Web
will a semi-colon do or is it not possible.
I also wondered if setting those variables in the PHP.ini will secure my web server enough. I find bits and pieces in the manual and this forum about what to do. Anything I've missed? _________________ Todd (Gannyaa)

No. This is not possible because I've already tried it. I will reply in my previous
bug report about this. Thanks for the info.

All depends on the kind of security you're looking for. The maximum one would mean running PHP scripts using an unprivileged user account which has restricted access permission to files on your hard drive. _________________ Support Team

I just found out that it's not possible to pass multiple arguments from the
-d switch. If you plan on having a custom configuration, I recommend that
you have a seperate php.ini file and use this instead.
Custom Environment Variables:
Name: PHPRC
Value: C:\PHP5\php_custom.ini |

Before i upgraded to this package i used to have a maximum of 4 or 5 php-cgi.exe processors running using fast cgi (local - TCP/IP sockets) but since upgrading to 5.2.0 that does not work now so i have to use fast cgi (local - pipes) the problem is that when pc is not being used i get about 30 or 40 php-cgi.exe processors running which is eating up most of my ram.. they don't seem to be timing out. _________________ http://www.jibba-jabba.net | http://www.mosthauntedforum.com |

It seems like a common bug. A few people have reported it. I suggest using Standard CGI until the problem has been solved. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I made the switch to std cgi and have to say haven't noticed any difference other than it's pretty stable. _________________
