Good Mailserver For Blocked Port 25, And Control Panel Progr

My ISP seems to block port 25 for SMTP, so i'm wondering is there a way to change the port on any mailserver programs or whats the best way for me to setup a mailserver with it blocked.

Also is there a good control panel program that works with abyss??

Most major ISPs block port 25, in my experience. I'm not aware of any mailservers that will prevent you from changing the listening port, and even when they don't you can use your firewall to redirect a different external port to port 25 internally. You ARE running a real firewall, right? ;)

I recommend Mercury as a great, reliable and free mailserver for Windows. I've been running it for about six years without a single moment's unscheduled downtime.

the only firewall i have is the one that is built in my router, is there a good tutorial on how to make a file server work. i am completley new at all of this and am trying to learn but its hard without tutorials :)

I use ArgoSoft's mail server. The free version off course, it allows you to change every port it uses and works great in combination with for example php.

What router do you have? You might find help looking here --> Router Port Forwarding.

You want to use UPnP forwarding. Forward external port 25 using TCP to internal port 25 at your server's internal IP address (something like 192.168.xxx.xx).

After you correctly forward port 25 try this:

i'm using linksys wrt54g with dd-wrt firmware, so if i go to portforwarding go from port 25 to port 25? i'm confused lol

Since you believe your port 25 is blocked, you'll have to set this up differently.

I have a Linksys BEFSX41, so I'll assume your router setup is the same as mine.

Click on the Applications & Gaming link.
Click on UPnP Forwarding link.
On the list, you'll see several ports that can be forwarded. Create your custom entry at the bottom of the page.
You can enter MySMTP for the Application.
Ext.Port is 200, we'll say.
Click the TCP radio button.
Int.Port will be 25.
Then you'll see 192.168.1.___. This field is for the internal IP address of the mail server computer. (You can find this IP address out by typing ipconfig /all at the DOS prompt for Win2000/XP or winipcfg for Win98.)
Click the checkbox at the end to enable this forwarded port and click Save Settings.

Server setup: Your SMTP server should be set up to use port 25.
Email client setup: Any email client sending mail through your domain will use port 200. Outlook Express or Outlook must be set up to use port 200 for SMTP connections.

lol my ISP blocks most ports they have 80, and 21 opened but you can request ports opened so iv got 6667 open (for my IRC deamon) and i cant run a mail server or they will lock all my ports :/ (apperently there scared of virus and spam ECT.....)

i'm trying to use hmailserver but its still nto sending, is there a good tutorial on how to set it up properly, i setup my domin name, and an account.

is the host name for smtp the ip address of the mail server?

The host name for the SMTP server is the domain for which you are receiving mail.

hMailServer is pretty easy, install and go. All you would need to do is modify the ports and stick it in your mail program.

yea, i've been trying, the mail program doesnt connect to the ip address, i'm not sure if i'm port forwarding right it always says connecting to xx.xx.xx.xx then gives me erorrs for sending and recieving

hMailServer requires authentication for sending emails. Also make sure you have whatever@whatever.com as the username, just whatever as the username is not enough.

For an email server, you have to forward more than just one port.
For SMTP, it's usually port 25 (already covered, I know). This is for sending mail from your mail server to any other mail server. If you want to use authenticated SMTP, it's port 465.
POP3 is usually port 110. This is for checking your email with your email client.
I'm not sure if you're using IMAP, but that's port 143.

So, there are more ports to consider forwarding to have a properly-functioning mail server. (BTW, all these ports should be forwarded as TCP.)
