I have a netcomm NB5 modem/router and a netgear WGR614 wireless router.
Using just the NB5 having setup any necessary forwarding I can run the web server and it can be seen externally as well. No problems there.
When I connect the wgr614 to the nb5, the web server is not seen externally, even though I have applied all forwarding to it as well.
I know there is no issues with blocked ports.
What I need to find out is what ip adresses I need in the WRG14, so that it does not block access to the web server.
Currently, the NB5 has:
Lan ip 192.168.1.1 with a dhcp range of 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.149.
The wgr614 has:
Lan ip 192.168.0.1
I have also tried disabling dhcp on the wgr614 router so as I would have only one router and hub instead. I was following a guide on portforward.com.
Unfortunately it concerns using two routers with mutiple ports whereas the NB5 only has the one ethernet output, or USB (which I am not using).
If anyone is able to help me on the correct ip settings for the wireless router WGR614 I would be most grateful.
I would prefer not to have to go out and buy a wireless modem/router, and have two unused routers in my cupboard. |

boneman,
What is your computer LAN IP?
What is the forwarding rule that you've configured in the NB5 (the exact rule with the IP and the port numbers)? _________________ Support Team

From your description, my assumption is that your setup is:
Internet -> NB5 -> WGR614 -> PC with webserver
You need to set up the WGR614 to have an IP in the same range as used by the NB5, otherwise there is no way for the traffic to pass from the NB5 to the webserver PC.
You should change the WGR614 LAN IP to something in the same range as the subnet used by the NB5, but not in the DHCP range - e.g 192.168.1.2 (through .99)
The setup should then be
NB5 setup to forward port 80 to 192.168.1.2
WGR614 setup to forward port 80 to internal webserver PC IP e.g. 192.168.1.100.
Ideally, you should set a static IP for your PC webserver rather than use DHCP to allocate it. This avoids any problems with the IP changing and your port forwarding breaking. Again, set the IP in the range 192.168.1.3-99
You should definitely only have DHCP running on one router, but it depends what other PCs you have on your network and where they are located as to which router should have the DHCP server enabled. _________________

Thanks for the help so far.
But I am struggling to succeed.
I will try to supply as much information as i can.
NB5 info:
LAN IP Address 192.168.1.1
DHCP Enabled
DHCP Range 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.149
Ethernet Connected
USB Disconnected
IP Address 202.161.86.138
Default Gateway 203.87.84.49
Primary DNS 203.87.88.1
Secondary DNS 203.87.88.2
WGR614 info:
Internet Port
MAC Address 00:09:5b:d6:d2:0b
IP Address 192.168.1.100
DHCP DHCP Client
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Domain Name Server
192.168.1.1
LAN Port
MAC Address 00:09:5b:d6:d2:0a
IP Address 192.168.0.1
DHCP On
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
I have tried to my best efforts to do what has been suggested.
Yes I have the following order of components:
phone line - NB5 - WGR614 - pc with web server.
I have had to reinitialize both routers a number of times after being locked out for different reasons after changing settings.
I have uPNP enabled on both routers, and the default setting of both being dhcp servers is back on.
I am hoping that this extra info may enable one of you fine people to get my setup working.
Thanks for your help so far. |

Some more information:
On the NB5 I have forwarded port 80 to 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.1.100. (.2 being the pc)
On the WGR614 I have forwarded port 80 to 192.168.0.2. (the pc)
Having just checked the site via proxyweb.net, it is now showing up externally.
So one or more of these settings has for the moment allowed the web server to be seen. I am not sure if it is only temporary, as I have only server assigned ip on WGR614.
My guess is that the port forward to 192.168.1.100 is the one that has done it, as the NB5 should not be able to see anything not on the 1 subnet. Am I correct?
Mind you I would still like to have the exact settings of changing the static ip for the WGR614, etc.
Thanks.
Oh, by the way my site is boneman.no-ip.org.
My isp when I was on dialup allowed web hosting space, but when I went onto broadband with them, the space was no longer available.
I had a basic site for some friends of mine.
And now with Abyss, I am wanting to host a lot more. |
