I've had this Linksys BEFSR41 Router for a few years now.

The problem is this: every so often, the router just quits working. All the lights remain on and blink (WAN light blinks constantly, like always). According to the lights on the router, traffic looks 100% like normal. But no traffic can come in (to the server) and no traffic can go out (web browsing). If I remember correctly, it also completely impairs file sharing on our local network. I have to manually reset the router, which usually clears up the problem.

Has anyone else had trouble like this?

This problem explains why the uptime on my site is so low! I monitor it with http://www.mralert.com.

I have the same router. Try a firmware upgrade. That worked for me :-)

Thanks for the tip, Andy. Here's my firmware info: "1.46.02, Aug 03 2004". That's the latest version.
I read somewhere online that changing power adapters causes this problem to go away, so I tried it last night. My router has been down for three hours very early this morning.

I found out I bought this router somewhere around April 2002. It's worked well for the past four years.

If your able to, reload the current firmware as this sometimes solves the problem. I've used this method before on my router, and Creative MP3 player it worked a treat both times.

Thanks for the tip, olly86.
I uploaded the latest firmware again. It wasn't 5 minutes later that the problem happened again. Arrgggh!

SO...
I went to Office Depot today and got a new router. This one is a Linksys BEFSX41. This router has nice features. Probably the best is SNMP compatibility. This means I can get real-time bandwidth usage stats from the router!

Check it out!

*Hits you with a hammer because I want SNMP!*

Nice graph though. Supprised you got RTG working.

Actually, this isn't RTG. I looked that up and found it on a the sourceforge site. RTG only works for *nix systems (unless you can compile the C code and have it work on Windows).

This is PRTG Traffic Grapher. It took me pretty much 6-8 hours to get it to work exactly the way I wanted it.

You may want to consider saving for the BEFSX41. The other sparkling features are internet filtering (via stateful packet inspection) and 2 VPN tunnels. The router cost me $85 US. That translates into 67 euros or 53 pounds.

You can see a few more graphs at http://stephen.calvarybucyrus.org/graph/graphs.php.
