Hi I'm trying to setup a home FTP using Filezilla. I have XP Home and am not sure about the proper procedures. I have downloaded filezilla, but I get stuck in setting it up. How do I get an ftp address? How does the person I want to share files get her ftp address and how do we share them for file transfers? Can anyone help me walk through the setup process?

Thanks!

Tyson

Your web address - http://YourIP
Your ftp address - ftp://YourIP
Notice the similarities? That's assuming you're running the ftp server on it's default port (21).
If not, then your ftp address would look like ftp://YourIP:WhateverPortYouChose.

Now, as far as setting it up...

That's actually the documentation for FileZilla the FTP client, not the server...

I seem to remember it installs some help files with it, but it's not the most friendly server in the world, especially if you're the sort of person prone to stupid topic titles and not bothering to read instructions.

Right you are, friend. ;)
Seems kinda strange that they offer both client and server apps, but only offer docs for the client.

Anyway, there's some server FAQs on their sourceforge page that may help...

Also, you might want to find an FTP server that is a little easier for you to setup...

I would try Quick 'N Easy FTP Server. I use it and it's easy!

Search Google for it. It's free.

He isn't rude. He is sick of people like you asking every little question that could easily be solved with the search feature of google. I hate to put it like that but its the only way to explain it.

You are posting support requests for Serv-U FTP Server in the "General Questions About Abyss Webserver" forum. I pointed you to a better place to ask. If that's rude, I guess I am.
