To protect a directory:
Go to console-->advanced-->groups and create a username/password for the login. Then go to console-->advanced-->access control and setup access control for the dir, relative to htdocs. This means that for c:\abyss\htdocs\myfolderprotected would be /protected. |

OK, here's the path (i think) /C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\html/downloads.html.
The downloads.html is the page i want to password protect.
The instructions make it sound like a folder has to be the last after /
If i would stop at html, which is the folder for the other pages too, it would block all the other pages.
Maybe that's how it has to be with the web design software i'm using.
Or maybe i could take the other page htmls out of this folder if it has to be a folder.
OK, i tried to use the folder html, it didn't work. ???stumped???
Thanks! |

To password protect the following C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\html\downloads.html
you should enter "/html/downloads" in virtual path and "C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\html\downloads.html" in realm all without the quotes
When entering a path to protect in the virtual field keep in mind that the virtual box already starts with htdocs/
If you can keep that in mind it should be easy password protecting your directories if you simply start it with a forward "/" and the name of the directory directly after htdocs up until the directory you actually wish to protect...
Was this helpful? Solved your question already? Be kind and let us know :) _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez

Server Configuration > Advanced > Access Control > Add/Edit Path Access
When you click on add to password protect a directory you are prompted with two fields...
Virtual:
Realm:
Virtual starts from htdocs/
Realm is the actual path to documents you're trying to protect which also starts from htdocs/
virtual: /html/downloads (directory you wish to protect)
realm: C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\html\downloads.html (actual system path to directory)
you can also put in the relative path to it which is the same as virtual except without the forward slash _________________ Victor B. Gonzalez

Thanks this really helped.
The virtual path needs to be /html/downloads.html
Maybe since downloads.html is not a folder.
I think virtual starts here /
Thanks again. |

The realm name [now that i found it] is just for a description - users will see it on the password box.
Thanks again. |
