Hi, I've read many topics about why others can't see my site, I've tried some solution that people have answered, but none have worked.
I am using ADSL modem, and a HUB that shares connections between my sister and I. The problem is that when I use port 80 for my Abyss server, I can view my site, so can my sister's computer, and when I use port 81, the site won't show. The thing is that no one else could acess my site in port 80, I have no firewall and no anti-hacking softwares installed in my computer, and people used to be able to acess my site til couple month ago. I've reformated my computer, unpluged my model, restarted and reinstall my server a couple million times, so I have no idea how to fix it now.
May I get help and answer to what the problem may be? |

if your using Windows XP the built in firewall will most likely be blocking access. _________________ Olly |

I read somewhere that SP2 has a lot of updated bugs. It could be blocking the site (unless you use Frontpage to create it, and you make a point of praising MS, of course.....)

I'm having a similar problem, if not Identicle.
This is what I'm running
*Windows XP SP2
*TCP/IP Options set to allow trafficing/sharing
*website domain
*Filter/firewall disabled
It works for me and my network, http://192.168.1.3:1024
I'm not using a router. I've tried everything but I can't seem to get this to work.
People who view the IP above get the error that the connection was refused...
I'm trying to get this so I can host my website http://www.nethes.org on my own machine..Right now I'm using Freewebs (>.<) to host it.
Any word about this? |

For others to veiw your site, you need to get your IP.(not your local IP which is 192.168.1.3, but go to whatismyip.com and get that one) You can view your website from your computer with this IP, but only people outside your network.
If you have a router make sure that port forwarding is enabled for the port you are using, as this is pretty important. Also, your ISP may be blocking port 80 now. |

Do you have a router? If you do, you'll have to open port 80 on it to your local computer. Do you have a router or a direct internet connection?
Your broadband-modem (for example; speedtouch 510) might have a firewall built in.
I had a speedtouch before, with 4 ethernet ports and a builtin router with a DHCP-server that gave me an IP within the network.
Since I've changes ISP, I got a new modem. With this modem I get a 85.224.x.x IP, because it's not a local network.
I still use a router for protection on the server thought...
But not on my regular computer, since I've got GNU/Linux on it. No need for protection if you're not running Windows.
(Router == Your IP is something like 192.168.x.x) |

I tried different ports and I used my real IP address, rather than http://192.168.1.3
I didn't get it to work but then I just found out 15 minutes ago that the way my brother has the DSL supplied to the different computers is through a Router and he wont let me use Port fowarding or anything like that, so I'l lbe looking for a *sighs* paid host..thanks anyways for the help. |
