Which ONE would you choose out of these options for running a server and why?
EDIT: Note: If you don't choose speed we can assume its about 25KB/s speed.
1. Reliability (99.99% uptime)
2. Speed (100mbps backbone)
3. Content of the website
4. Ease of running, updating, upgrading and installation of programs.
Please remember to state why you chose that option.
I chose reliability because its annoying to go to a site that is offline when you need it most. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)

I voted speed because 9 times out of 10, if you have the speed, then you have the uptime (reliability). Of course, you need to take many things into consideration, so you cant really say much :-(
Theres my input anyway :-) _________________ Please SEARCH the forums BEFORE asking questions! |

Speed. No point having a great site that's available 99.9% of the time if by the time it's loaded your visitor has got bored and wandered off. |

Well, I say that to have uptime, you need to decide if your keeping it online or not. Speed is not really a factor of keeping your server on. |

24/1 mbit/s is enough for me, so I choose 99,99% uptime. |

At the end of the day, different people need different things. Some people can get the speed and not the reliability but some people can get the reliability but not the speed......etc Everything that has been mentioned here is valuable to keeping the clients interest in the site, but sometimes people just cant offer that, especially the home user!! There is probably more I could say on this subject but I'm drunk and I cant be bothered to write anymore ;-)
See you all tomorrow, when I'm sober!

I'm downloading about 3-4 mb (thats megabyte, not mbit) per sec. My uploadspeed is about 200 kb per sec. |

Actually I only get 100KB/s maximum from my Dads 2Mbps connection (capable of 250KB/s). 1Mbps is about 100KB/s anyway so if you get 200KB/s you are doing exceptionally well. _________________ Andy (AbyssUnderground) (previously The Inquisitor)
