I need to duplicate an existing website onto a CD-ROM. Can Abyss be installed on and run from a CD?

Thanks,
Jcole

if you preconfigure it change the the hdocs path, cgi log, http log ect
Although you could just put the web files on cd and make the hdocs directory point to the cdrom drive

Are you dealing with just plain old HTML? If you are, there isn't a reason in the world why you would need to bundle the web server too... But if you're dealing with active languages such as ASP, PHP, Perl, etc and your sites functionality depends on such languages I have a question... Unless you bundle your site on a CDR"W" wouldn't you run into read "write" problems?

I would like to see your project if it is an active one "requiring special languages" if you dno't mind.

Best of luck, I hope someone has an answer as distributing an active dependent site on CD-ROM sounds interesting.

The existing site uses Perl and PHP for dynamic web page creation and to access a mySQL database. I don't need any logs, and there shouldn't be any "writing" required to run the CD. The site needs to run standalone from a CD under Windows.

Thanks,

From a technical point of view, this is hard. In fact Abyss Web Server needs always read/write access on its abyss.conf file. So it couldn't run directly on a CD-ROM.

You should probably look into an installer which would install your site onto someones computer for you :) They're not that hard to learn and in just one week and maybe even definately less depending on how much you study it you too can become an installer pro :)

I prefer the professional installer of Inno Setup. It mostly code driven but is fairly easy even for a junior :)

This is an awesome front end GUI to iInno Setup called ISTools
http://www.istool.org/

Those two programs when used together can have you put out professional installers the way the big boys dont want you to find out :)

Its really an awesome package and is rated the highest on my list...

Theirs also easier installers out there but I would suggest you look into them :)

Good luck :)
