I've installed PHP Nuke, and everything seemed fine....until i got my first member to try to register....It tries to send out an E-mail with their password. Problem being, it doesn't actually send anything. Anything you guys know of that would fix this?

(yes I know it's not a fault with your server, but i figured you'ld know of a possible work-around)

Thank you for any assistance.

Open your php.ini file with notepad, ifnd the rule SMTP server (or at least something with SMTP in it :P) then change that rule to your pop3 server, like pop3.shithost.com or something. Then the rule underneath that there´s the sendfrom email, chang ethat one to your email addy at your provider.

done :-)

or install a mail server on your pc, and specify that setting to localhost.

I recommend http://www.argosoft.com 's mail server....its great, and free.

Bluedog,

Would you mind sharing your setup info on ArGoSoft's Mail Server??? I'm kinda fuzzy about how to set it up on my Windows 98 SE computer.

I would really appreciate it. :)

I'm using No-IP.com's free Dynamic DNS service, and I use Earthlink DSL as my ISP.

set localhost to yourname.no-ip.com
I disabled finger server as its obselete now, and can pose a security threat.

what other parameters do you need help with? It's pretty simple to use once you get used to it..

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this.

I've decided not to install a mail server on my PC. After much consideration, I don't think Windows 98SE is a safe enough OS on which to host a mail server. Besides, my ISP blocks SMTP on Port 25 anyway, so forgeddaboutit.

I appreciate you offering to help. Many thanks! :)
