I dont think so, because it would have to write the logs to the CD unless you specify a different directory.

If I delete the name of logfile from abyss.conf it will not write log.
The trouble is the abyss server opens the abyss.conf file read and write. Why?

Abyss Web Server can't run from a read-only media as it opens some files in read-write mode.

Depending on the application and the CD you want to create, our staff can help you and design a special version that doesn't have this behavior and that will run from a CD without any problem. Please contact support@aprelium.com for more information.

Theoretically, CD-RW will rewrite. Be sure it is formatted in UDF to ensure drive-like access, which will show it as a drive letter in Windows Explorer (assuming Windows, should be similar on a Mac). You would need to have Roxio or Nero InCD.

Last, but not least, Aprelium, the offer to make a special version for the requestor is totally awesome!

Now that the new version supports loading the conf file from alternative paths, I guess it would be possible to create a launcher for Abyss which made a small ramdrive and copied the conf file there for the duration of running Abyss, then deleted the ramdrive on exit... A lot more hassle than just being provided with a custom version though!

I know the answer, if you would like to know The Answer , its not a complicated as making a CD/RW or RAMdrive and has none of the issues that those soloutions have.

I know you can run your website from the CD providing it does not need to write any files, eg for PHP.

HTML files just on the CD should be fine. I tried it myself and worked. Make sure you have a slow ish CD ROM, eg 8x otherwise your users will be waiting forever to get a file that is a few KB in size while the CD-ROM spins up.

So, whats your problem.

someone wants to know a 'techie answer' to a 'non abyss question', it falls outside the realms of apreliums domain and its not interfering with their business so its up to you, either buy the soloution form me or pay for the information, I have to eat, pay bills and getting a job is out of the question seeing as employers shit on me at every oppotunity so IM going self employed and as such I cant give everything away for free...

And I do not have to justify myself to you over the matter so why are you putting the spoon in and giving it a stiring for?

IF YOU have the answer, you spill it...

Meh those are a little bulky to carry around. A USB thumb drive doesn't require any cords. A removable HD requires drivers and cords. =}. The thumb drive would be the only other way that I can think off thats could be senshi's "Answer" (beside a CD).

Only problem with using a thumbdrive is the file would have to be written with relative paths in order to work.
Absolute paths wouldn't work because thumbdrives don't always install with the same drive letter on all systems.
