Today I received pornographic spam emails that appear as if they came from "announce@aprelium.com". By that I mean: The sender and return addresses were shown as "announce @aprelium.com". No biggie! :)

Just letting you know in case you didn't already. Thanks for your time!

Edit: oops, I guess you already know about this. Sorry.

I think that you ARE being a bit harsh to Aprelium. They did try to stop people from obtaining the mailing list. They did it damn well for the 8 months I’ve been on the list. But if their server is hacked then nothing in the world is going to stop that malicious person from sending you donkey p0rn. It's unfortunate that you can't see that they most likely did try to prevent the access but no machine can be 100% secure. Even Microsoft can be hacked, and I do believe it has been several times. If you submit your email address to ANY LIST EVER you are subject to receiving spam. YOU CANNOT STOP IT. There are people out there with nothing better to do than ruin valuable work that other people have done and laugh at how annoyed people like you are.

Also, if you did bother to examine the header of the email, you'll see that the sender didn't bother to send it to each individual email address, as all the other emails I have received from Aprelium were, but rather was sent to "Announce@aprelium.com". I don't know about you but my email sure as hell isn't announce@aprelium.com. If you want more proof that this most likely wasn't sent by Aprelium, simply examine the title of the email. "YOU CAN'T STOP THE POWER OF BIG TITZ". Did you ever think that this was some kind of taunt? It's a claim for pride, as terrorists will proudly announce that THEY were responsible for their latest attack.

So you know what, if you hate receiving spam, don't sign up for anything. Don't even get a DSL/cable/dial up line. Change your name, move into a motel, pay for EVERYTHING with cash. Use a fake SSN, give 3500 S. Wacker, Chicago, IL, 60616 as your address. . Go to some shady street dealer and buy an ID passport and whatever. Don't lease a car, buy one used. Never spend more than 10 grand at a time. Don't use a bus card, use bus tokens. Get plastic surgery and change your hair color. Wear sunglasses and a large hat. Shift your walking style every 15 minutes. Get in contact with a Columbian drug lord and have their surgeons alter your fingerprint.
Then you'll never have to deal with ANY spam EVER AGAIN. Yes, that's what it takes.

Ya happy?:D
No? I don't give a damn. Leave the board. Stop using Abyss - 1 less paranoid ass to deal with.

you're right, Ryan. i was being too harsh. i edited my original msg as somewhat of a goof (i.e. i changed it from being harsh to being overly nice).

the sad thing is that i actually did see that the recipient was "announce@aprelium.com", but for some reason it didn't click in my tired brain. no shit my email address hasn't (necessarily) been compromised. that fact is so obvious i have no idea why i had ever thought otherwise. the only thing i can think is that i was so pissed off i put "thinking" aside completely. my mistake. i've had a hell of a past couple of months. sorry to anyone who read my original msg...

What for Scott? We are for the freedom of expression and as you may noticed it, we never delete a post even if people insult us.

We were too sad today when we opened our office. We were away from work for less than two days after a full year of hard work. We thought we can take some rest. But spammer/hackers thought it was the right time to destroy what we were working for: making Aprelium a respectful company with a good product and a good support.

Many people kept unsubscribing from our mailing list although we sent an email to apologize for what we haven't did. Many others sent us emails to insult us.

We guess that what we did wrong is that we wanted to be a human company that gives more importance to our customers than to their bucks. But people seem to like big and icy corporations that never answer to users' emails and that do all their possible to take their money. What a lesson in life we learned during that beginning of the New Year.

Hopefully, there are still people that trust us and appreciate what we did. We really thank them for their support and they should know that we enjoy what we do thanks to their feedback.

Aprelium is strong. It will continue to do its best to bring you the best software and to help you using it.

May God bless you :D

You know, all I saw was the subject line and deleted it straight away because I never read spam. I once belonged to an economics list which was compromised and the service provider refused to acknowledge that there was a problem. I left. Aprelium acknowledged the problem, apologized for the inconvenience, and set about investigating the matter; a very human and professional way to handle the situation. I'm sure that all the nasty-grams you got from list subscribers was a surpise; people sometimes suck. My hat's off to Aprelium, the human company.

aprelium is cool alright, but what's this about "people sometimes suck"? obviously they do--but the people you are talking about simply misunderstood the source of the spam email. they thought that aprelium, like so many other companies, took advantage of their personal information, and did something inappropriate. that doesn't mean those people "suck". it means they've been burned before. and i don't know about you, but i have no real knowledge about aprelium; i don't know any of their names, i don't hang out with them, i don't have their phone number in my wallet--they are just another web-based company to me and every other user out there.

Never stop thinking that! What you did is wholy commendable. What you did was human, nothing more, nothing less. What could be better?
