Dear all,

I am new to the site and I have spent two days trying to find an answer to a configuration error with windows 7 bothj 32 bit and 64 bit.
I have installed Abyss web servver 2.8 and PHP 5.4.4 from the aprelium website. On XP, Vista x32 and Vista x64 I configure and then create a php file called phpinfo.php with the following line;
<?php phpinfo() ; ?>
On all machines except windows 7 I can see the file when directing browser to http://localhost/phpinfo.php It brings up the php info on the PC. All non windoes 7 systems point to default port 80 with no problems; Windows 7 points to Port 8080. If I change to 80 I get listening error.

Please advise as I can find no reference or workaround and as I am at the beginning of my web building experience I feel I cannot progress without your assistance.

steve8742,

If you get a listening error, this means that there is another application on your computer that is already using port 80 you've configured Abyss Web Server to use (please refer to http://www.aprelium.com/data/doc/2/abyssws-win-doc-html/portsproblems.html for more information).

We recommend using the free utility Active Ports. Active Ports is available from http://www.aprelium.com/data/aports.zip and will let you know the name of the application that uses the port you've selected for Abyss Web Server. Stop that application and restart Abyss Web Server to have it use that port.

If abyssws.exe is reported as the application that is using port 80, chances are that you have another instance of the web server already running on your computer. This usually happens when you configure Abyss Web Server to run as a Windows Service (so an instance is launched in the background at boot time) and then try to launch it from your user session (this second instance will be unable to run because the ports are already used by the first instance running in the background).

If Abyss Web Server is running as a system service, there is no point to start it again from the user session. It is already there and running. You can access its console by browsing http://127.0.0.1:9999 but you won't see its icon in the system tray. The web sites will also be running fine.

If the problem persists, please send us the result obtained from ActivePort and your abyss.conf file so that we help you solve this issue.

Hi, many thanks for the reply, it was an IIS issue within Windows 7. I uninstalled and it worked fine. Not sure what impact IIS has on the system?

Active Ports would not run - Access Denied.
Many thanks,

Steve

Removing it has no impact. It is an independent software and is not vital to Windows.

On Vista and Windows 7/8 you may need to run the executable using Administrator privileges (right click on the .exe file and choose "Run as administrator".)
