Is it possible to set up a mail server and have it that you can have anyaddress@my-domain.tk when using a free domain name from .tk?

I think they only provide email forwarding with your domain.

OK. Are there any companies that will give you an address you can use for free?

I looked on no-ip.com and you have to pay for any of the email services. Is there anywhere you can get them for free?

There no free IP. It cost ISP to obtain some block of IP.
As for mail server. You can setup your own mail server on your LAN side. You can use No-IP to update your dynamic IP if you are not on static. You can search around for mail server or get MS Exchange. There some small mail server around but I do not have it or remember at this moment.

If you want a domain name, it will cost you too. If name is not important, then simply use the No-IP that you made.

You do not have to pay for the basic email services on no-ip.

Running a mail server is a different kettle of fish from running a web server, you have to be careful as most mail servers recieve allot of traffic that is basically an attempt to connect to your mail server and use it to spam the network or use it as an open relay.

Been through it and if your expecting it to be an easy ride, forget it, you will be kept busy with trying to keep ass holes from trying to get you into trouble with your ISP by trying to get your mailserver to SPAM people.

IF you insist on running a mail server, makesure that you do the following...

Secure in and out ports for the server, ports 25 & 110 with settings in your firewall.
Configure the server to send the mail via an ISP server, you will be basically using the mailserver as a local relay.
Turn off the relay function when you have configured the POP & SMPT mail verifaction.

Basically you now can offer people inter-domain mailing without people you allow to use your webserver but not send external emails, that would only be yourself that could email out, if you have a forum, the server can be configured to accept and relay emails from specific users and this helps with forum sign-ups.

So becrareful with running a server, you will notice after a few days that you will see that your server will have had a few connection attempts to relay or enquire if a user is on your domain, unkless you are part of the major ISP mail server network, you can take this as read that your machine is visible on the internet and the person sending the enquiry was testing your system to see how its set up, eg by sending a relay email to themselves they can determin simply if relay is on or off.

Bottom line is this.... Dont bother, your only going to make your PC's life a misery.

I use zoneedit to use a couple of email addresses of xxx@metromain.net and then forward to my cable email account.

Once at my email on pc I just use rules to seperate web server mail from the other accounts.
