Can the log file be configured in any way?

I'm pretty happy with my private website, powered by Abyss, but I like to be able to check on who's logged in and who's downloading stuff. This makes the log file very important to me.

My problem is that everything is logged; every page that's viewed, every picture on every page that's viewed etc. This makes searching visually through the log file to look for specific information difficult.

Is there any way to just have the user/password and what files are downloaded logged, and everything else ignored?

I have some PDFs that are downloaded and it would be nice to be able to look at the log and just see something like:

user: bob password: ***** logged in at 0000 hrs.
document.pdf transferred at 0001 hrs.
user: bob password: ***** logged out at 0005 hrs.

Is this possible?
If not, maybe add it as an option in the next updated version?

I use FTP for these purposes, it's easier to maintain and track logins and downloads. Filezilla server is quite good, and free.

I was using FTP for the file transfers, and it was okay. I could monitor the downloads in real time and block IPs and other stuff. But, with a view to keeping it simple, I was hoping that I could drop the FTP part, and just use Abyss. I appreciate your response to my post, and I'm still wondering if it's possible to configure what is logged by Abyss. Any one know?

You can certainly customize the logfile to some extent:

Server Config -> Logging Parameters -> Custom Logging Formats

Give your new format a name, then you can add fields to the new logging style.

I expanded on ^ Lawerence's post for a different reply, so here it is:

Home > Server Configuration > Logging Parameters

Click "Add" for a new format

Name it

Add Parameters as you see fit.

Hit Ok...

Go to Home > Configure (by your host name) > Logging > Change the "Logging Format" to the new type you made.
