I've been using AWstats for a long time now, and I just noticed that it says 117.6% of the visitors to my site (or 20/17) have added my page to their favorites! cool!

I know it's just an estimation :)
Maybe I should check for a new version of it.

Just wondering what everyone else uses if anything.

If the only way it knows that is by a favicon request in the logs, the estimate is going to be way off, since Mozilla and Opera request this regardless of whether you add the site to your favourites...

I don't know how it knows it, this is the first time I've noticed it being way off like that.

I like AXS Visitor Tracking found at www.xav.com -- it's pretty comprehensive and easy to setup...

I will second cldickerson's recommendation of AXS Tracking system (link above in his post.)

I have used this system on several websites as well as on my Abyss. I like using AWSTATS, though, for getting bandwidth and robots visits so AXS works great in addition to AWSTATS.

Based on the above posts, I decided to give awstats a try. Got it installed and working (pretty nice) but can't figure out how to run it from the command line. No problem accessing the stats with a browser. Can anyone explain how to get the stats by running it from the command line?

Thanks

Hi cldickerson--

This command runs AWSTATS update from command line on my system:
perl C:\awstats\www\awstats.pl -config=sixa.no-ip.info -update

I am using cron for windows to have this done twice daily for me using:
#This updates awstats twice daily at 10 am and 10 pm
0 10,22 * * * C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe C:\awstats\www\awstats.pl -config=sixa.no-ip.info -update

Regards,
Axis

Axis,

Thanks for the response but when I attempt to run awstats using your example, I get a notice that windows cannot find perl. Not sure exactly what to do now. Guess I need to associate the .pl extension somehow. I am able to view stats using my browser but was concerned that browser may time-out if stats get to large. I'll keep working on it.

Many thanks,

Claude

Hi again cldickerson--

I forgot to mention that I cd'd to my AWSTATS directory before running the first command mentioned below.

However, you should be able to just use the:
C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe C:\awstats\www\awstats.pl -config=sixa.no-ip.info -update
command right from the opening command line entry space (changing the path to perl if needed and your values for your .conf file.

I hope that helps.

Regards,
Axis

Axis,

Got it working! Seems to be a good stat program. Don't know if I want to switch back to AXS or not. Maybe I'll just keep em' both. Thanks for all the help.

My site have only 50-60 unique visitors per day. There is no need for log-analyzer. Just change the log file from access.log to access.txt and Notepad can be used. For a personal web server - using the Server Statistics only is the best option and the simplest of all. No need for something more.
