I'm having a problem with my website where when there hasnt been any visitors for a long time and the CGI PHP hasnt been started yet, the page takes around 5 seconds more to load (because the cgi php process starts up). This only recently started happening. Any idea why its doing this and how to fix it?

What version of Abyss and PHP are you using? If you're using Abyss Web Server X1/X2 2.7-2.8, you can preload PHP using the FastCGI advanced options.

It turns out that feature is available in 2.7 as well. I apologize but I don't always keep up with the features from previous versions of Abyss. Read my last post to find out where to configure the FastCGI preloading.

I dont see any option for that. I see some other stuff though:

Minimum Processes
Maximum Processes
Conservative Behavior Process Count Threshold
Conservative Behavior Polling Interval
Request Count Before Process Recycling

Site->Scripting Parameters->Edit Interpreter->Edit Advanced Parameters

Minimum Processes: 1

Will make sure that at least one process exists at all times.
