Hi there,
I'd like to share our wonderful experience with Abyss!!!

Yesterday we went to the web farm where we'd our old server in housing and we changed it with a new server.

The specs of our new server are:
Dell PowerEdge R300 - Rack 1U
Intel Xeon Quad Core 2,83 Ghz
RAM 8 Gb
2x Hard disk 300 Gb SAS 15k rpm RAID1
OS: Windows 2008 64-bit Web Server Edition

We're using Abyss X2 2.6 64-bit beta version and it's really wonderful!!!!

In 24 hours we got about 72000 hits and we'd 4 Gbyte of data transfer in just one day and it rocks!!! We've really great performance!!!

In also we do mailserver and FTP server with this server and we own about 70 domains (3 webhost for each domain).

Thanks to everyone...
Paolo

I've also been testing the 64-bit beta and I can confirm that it is indeed very stable. I'm looking forward to the stable build.

I gotta quit drooling so much... What a sweet setup!

BTW, what is your bandwidth on your server's net connection? And what's the price?

After 16 days of uptime on our new server we've got about 50 Gbytes of web server traffic (just web server, we also own mail and ftp services over that server!).

With that server we've got a 10 Mbps lan connection directly connected to the internet through a firewall (Zyxel Zywall 100). Speed tests can confirm our bandwidth, that's about 9800 kbps in download and 7800 kbps in upload!

That server is co-located in Playnet Webfarm in Florence - Italy ( http://www.playnet.it )

We pay about 150 euros/month for the network connection, the leased firewall and the redundant power for our server. What do you think about this price? I don't think it's too much!

In also the webfarm is controlled 24/24h and there's phone and email support 10h/day except on Sunday.

Have a nice 1st April day!!!

Paolo

Including this one, I am seeing code only.

http://www.playnet.it/data_center_tour.htm

Maybe your referrer links inside your control panel are not set correctly.

I usually use Abyss 1.x on my test machine but am planning on rebuildingmy web server. Is the 46 bit version beta only?

Excuse me? What are you meaning? I don't understand...

Can you explain what are you asking?

BTW the 64-bit 2.6 version is still in beta version only for users that bought the X2 version.

Abyss rocks!!!

Hello everybody!
I'm new at this forum - playing for some time with Abyss and never had any problems..so no need to write here.
I'm testing an intranet site I'm administering (Abyss Free edition, PHP,ASP.NET Web services, MySQL, MSSQL - everything running smoothly together) on a new computer and OS - the site is currently running on 32bit XP Prof, 4GB RAM, Intel DualCore processor.

The new computer is AMD Phenom II Quad Core with 8GB RAM and 64bit Windows7.
The main reason for switching to a new machine and OS was a bottleneck with MSSQL - and now MSSQL server operations are about 20 times faster.

But overall performance is poor - ca 10 times slower :-(.

A brief comparison: (needs more testing)
Static HTML pages - about 20-30 times faster
Dynamic pages created by PHP scripts without reading from MSSQL and MySQL - comparable or a bit slower
Dynamic pages created by PHP scripts reading and writing to MySQL and MSSQL - 10 or more times slower.

Can anybody give me an advice where to look for the reason?

Thanking in advance

Szubi

we don't use windows 7 64-bit.

We use Win2008 Web Server 64-bit with Abyss X2 2.6 64-bit (still beta version but it's great!!) with PHP 32-bit and MySQL 64-bit

We don't use MSSQL (I think it sucks!!!!) but with MySQL 64-bit performance are great!!

It might be interesting to use Win2008 Server instead of Windows 7, because I'm pretty sure network performance would be better!

In also I suggest to buy the X2 Abyss version, so you'll can ask for trying the 64-bit version that is wonderful!!

We're moving over a new server farm with a new web server!

I'd just like to share our impressions with all of you Abyss lovers!!! :)

The new server will be:

Supermicro XEON W3520 2,67 Ghz Quad-Core 64-bit
RAM 24 Gb DDR3
Hard disk: 2 SSD Intel 40 Gb in RAID1 for S.O.
2 Hitachi 2 Tb 7200rpm SATA2 in RAID1 for DATA

The best part is the network connection:

1 Gbps up/down with 40 Tb monthly traffic!

I've already tested Abyss throughput and I've reached 1,5 Mbytes in download (almost 15 Mbps!!) from our new server and the limit was the DSL connection!!! LOL :)

So I keep thinking Abyss is always the best web server with the best speed all around the world!!!
