I am using a cable modem
my router reports my wan ip as 10.0.18.104
my reported ip from various internet sites is 65.164.22x.xxx
does this mean that my isp is using some crazy proxy setup?
i can only connect to the abyss web server on the localhost
 |

No, there is nothing wrong. The "ten dot" IP you have (that's what some people call them; 10.0.18.104) is your Internal IP. The other one is your External IP. You need to set up port forwarding on your router. Check here to find out how (if you don't already know). _________________ Bienvenidos! |

I disconnected the router, connected directly to my cable modem, rebooted, and checked ipconfig.exe - my ip address is reported as 10.0.18.96
my ip reported from internet reporting sites gives 65.164.22x.xxx
i also disabled my software firewall
i still can only reach the site via the localhost
i am in an apartment complex - seems like the isp has put everybody on a local network behind some kind of server
what do you think? |

Yeah, it really sound like you're connecting through some central proxy/gateway. _________________ "Death and destruction... that's all a person really needs" - Kalkin / EViL |

Yes, that is probably why you have a ten dot IP. People only use those when they have very large networks, like it sounds you have. Ask the network admin about it. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

It might be that your ISP is blocking from port 80 because of some bad stuff from it try no-ip.com for port redirect and choose port 8080 so people can access even they dont have to put the port number for example homesite.hopto.org but if u dont do it it would be homesite.hopto.org:8080 so i recommend that.:) _________________ Visit http://web26.hopto.org:443/ please help me make my site better http://web26.hopto.org:443/ |

Even if Port 80 is blocked, that wouldn't give him an Internal IP. _________________ Bienvenidos! |

Slinger, your problem maybe a bit more complicate than normal basic.
You need to tackle one level at a time.
You say can access from LocalHost which mean from itself. But you also mention you have a firewall [s/w]. This layer you need to fix first before going on to the bigger network.
- Do you have another PC? Another PC from your LAN can check if you can access to the Abyss BOX. If can access, this normally firewall is not the cause and pretty much setup correct from your Abyss.
Next is to check what WLAN IP that coming to your LAN.
- You can check by this - http://www.aprelium.com/ip/
or simply ask your ISP provider what your public IP.
Also check if your IP is static or Dynamic.
Next if you can host any webserver.
If ISP telling you your PORT 80 is block, try using another odd ball number.
If you have dynamic, you simply use one of those service like No-IP to update your ever changing IP.
10.0.18.96 .... Could this be your DHCP IP assignment from your cable modem router / gateway? From your post, it maybe seem like it is. The reason is due when you change from xx.xx.xx.104 to 96. _________________ CapFusion,... |
