Don't wory I will probably put them up around 4 PM , so far it looks really easy to understand , you should check out the PHP one for now and make sure you put those setting during the installing process. 8)

Yep, already checked out the PHP tutorial and got it running perfectly. Love the screenshots and simple instructions!

Any chance you will be writing something about how to set up a site if you are behind a firewall or anything? I saw that you had posted elsewhere about having a hardware and software firewall- my computer gets the connection from another computer connected to the net which has a both a hardware (LinkSys) and software firewall (Norton), then my computer also has a software firewall. So at this point, I have no idea what my actual IP address is or anything :oops:

Anyway, keep up the great work and thanks again :)

Hmm... I ran into a bit or a problem configuring phpMyAdmin. In the server console, in the alias page when I type in scripts/phpMyAdmin in the real path it says bad path. Edit: got it, nvm. Thanks too, I got my forum up and running!

PugZip , Winzip will unzip it , I recommend the .exe installer version but you can use that if you want , its best to download the installer version

I am a complete computer virgin. However by using Abyss and these AWESOME forum tutorials I have my own server up and running. It has Perl, mysqp, php, movable type. (i just wish someone made a movable type tutorial. I saw the greymatter one that was good, but movable type>greymatter.)

I just wanted to bump this thread because out of all the tutorials, this one served my needs the best.

Can you make these tutorials downloadable so we can read them offline? That would make my day.

Is your website down a lot of the time? I'm having trouble connecting but I really want to try your tutorials because I've been unable to get the others to work.

You seem to be back up again. I've ran through the tutorial and everything seems to have gone to plan but when I went to mysqladmin I get the following message on the 'Environment' tab:

MyODBC
----------------
Not Found
Driver 3.51 not found

Is this going to be a problem.

btw. thanks for the clear tutorial it helped a lot.

I've followed your tutorial to the letter twice but on the phpMyAdmin front screen I get this;

Create new database: [Documentation]
No Privileges

-it will not let me create a new database.

Can you help please!!

This is not a problem , it seems that since you attempted to install
phpMyAdmin maybe more than one time , you get this error , do this.

1. Uninstall MySQL and reboot your machine

2. Install MySQL and 3. Install phpMyAdmin according to my
tutorial again , make sure the old one is deleted. Good Luck!

Note: ODBC Driver not found (Not important)

I followed your tutorials to the letter and that was why it wasn't working. In the mysql tute you say "if it is your first installation of mysql you may be prompted for a password - press cancel" It was my first install so I pressed cancel and all I had in the my.ini file when I checked was;

[WinMySqladmin]
Server=C:/mysql/bin/mysqld-nt.exe

and nothing else.

To get the other lines I had to reinstall then input a user and password press ok then delete it in the my.ini file as in the other part of your tutorial.

A minor point but others may experience the same problem I did.

All is now working well.

Thanks for the tute.

Only if they don't understand the concept of what TrustPunk is saying. If you don't enter a username and password, OF COURSE the my.ini file is going to be empty. If you read the manual, you will see that there are MANY things you can put in that file (my.ini) to control how MySQL behaves on your PC. That file is just a DEFAULT setup. There are other possible versions of the "my.ini" file in the MySQL folder named "my-huge", "my-large", "my-medium", and "my-small". If you want, you can rename one of those to "my.ini" and use it instead. Make sure you backup your original "my.ini" file in case you screw up (been there - done that).

For future reference, all you had to do was right-click on the little traffic light in your system tray and open the MySQL Admin program, edit the "my.ini" file to include a username and password, and SAVE the changes.

As long as the login info is the same in "my.ini" and in the phpMyAdmin config file, you shouldn't have a problem logging in. You can also change, add, or delete users/passwords from the command line (if you know the syntax). :wink:

The MyODBC driver wasn't found, because ODBC is not installed on your PC, dude. If you install it, it will be found (sounds like Field Of Dreams). LOL!

However, since you are using ANOTHER database system (MySQL), you don't need the other driver, capisce? :wink:
