When I gave the link to my site to other people or gave them the download to a file it would not work. Anybody know what's wrong?

Are you using/behind a router or firewall? If yes then configure those to allow outside access to port 80 (which Abyss is using by default). Also make sure that you haven't changed that port in Abyss (ie if you set Abyss up to listen to port 8765, for example, then those who type your URL without this port in their browser's address field (like http://yoursite.some.where/ instead of http://yoursite.some.where:8765/) get the "No Page Found" errormessage.

I don't know if I am behind a firewall. Is there a way that I can find out?

It's likely that you're behind a router which also does firewalling. To verify this execute WINIPCFG (if your OS is Winblows 95/98/ME) or Start=>Run=>Cmd=>IPCONFIG. In eighter way you should see an 'IP Address' field. Next determine your *external* IP address, eighter go to http://www.aprelium.com/ip/ or http://www.whatismyip.com/ or http://www.myipaddress.com , they all show it to you (if you're connecting through a proxy/cache you've got to disable it, in Internet Explorer for example Tools=>Connections=>LAN Settings remove the 'checked' marks there). Now, if the IP reported by the website(s) is the same as the one reported by WINIPCFG/IPCONFIG then you *are not* behind a router. That's good. But if it differs... well, I guess you can figure out what that means. In this case you have to find someone who *knows* how exactly you connect trough the Internet. Is there an IT or Internet support person in your house? Ask him. (you've got to know someone IRL because it's neccessary to forward port 80 from the router to your machine).
If you're not behind a router then there's a slight possibility that your iNet service provider has blocked the neccessary port(s). You should check their homepage for exact info about the connection you've ordered (they usually say it when ports are closed).

It is, of course possible, that you're using a software firewall (like Winblows' own XP Firewall or ZoneAlarm or Norton Internet Security or...). In this case you've got to allow Abyss work as a server (ZoneAlarm, for example, explictly asks you whether an application can connect to the iNet, and if this application also happens to listen to ports then ZA also asks if this app can work as a server). XP Firewall... haven't used it so don't know how exactly you configure it, but you've got to allow access to port 80.
