Does anyone know of how to create a login page using php creating text files instead of using a database? I know it can be done, anyone know how? I would really like to get my hands on a code that I could use.

Thanks

If you go to Zend, you can get the basics of authentication using a flatfile...
http://www.zend.com/zend/tut/authentication.php

But if you'd like a pre-made script, then get Members Area. It can be
downloaded from here... http://82.37.50.61/index.html?page=source
and go to http://82.37.50.61/index.html?page=msgBrd&pg=&msg=73
for setup instructions.

You can also check out www.hotscripts.com for others.

Hey that code is awesome, and it does everything that I would like it to. ...If I could get the darn thing to work. That think is a code nightmare! I get Error messages up the ying-yang! I went to the install guide, and it doesn't help much. I will play around with it. Hopefully I can get that thing to work.

Thanks again thought, that was what I was looking for. Know of any others?

I always use an mySQL database for authentication becuase that is must faster.
You can create an free mySQL database on http://freesql.org but note that they don't host forums!

hm...
login and register using an flatfile...
I don't understand why you not want to use an database...
But however I've probably found somthing for you:

http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=414&lngWId=6

Its only not php but Perl :S

I also found http://www.geocities.com/daciofit/script/Dacio_login-v1.1.zip but its not working with cookies and you can just protect one file/page etc. so if you want to protect more pages you'll need to re-enter the password each time :S

Thanks for the help. The reason that I wanted to use text files instead of a database, is that right now I am always on the go, and I really wanted to create a good site. The problem is that I have no clue how to use a database. Non what so ever. Now I download MySQL and fooled around with that for a little while, but I am lost. I figure it would be easier to just throw together a php file that could do it all. Now, I am most likely going to have a very lame, unsecure login page by doing so. Any suggestions on how to learn MySQL?

One more thing too. Can I use another database besides MySQL?

Thanks again
