I have read about 50 different messages all the confuse me a bit I think I am doing this right but is not sure. We have a D-Link router and I think I am having troubles forwarding my ports I know how and everything just I can't check to see if everything is working properly I was waundering if anyone could help me to make sure I am forwarding the right ports.

My IP: 66.244.**.***
My PC's Router IP: 192.168.0.101
Server Config Port: 1111
Web Server Port: 1234
OS: Windows ME

When I type my IP in for it to come to this pc so that people can access my website what do I need to put for the ports to allow. Like the UDP/TCP and what Port to use. (ex. Web Server - 192.168.0.101 - TCP 1111/1111) I think thats how your suppose to do it forwarding the TCP ports 1111 to this PC.

Then when I type http://66.244.**.*** do I need to add the port :1111 or :1234 at the end?

Sry, but it seems like this question is asked about a million times, but I am still having trouble with it maybe someone can explain to me exactly what to put.

http://ip:port

and the port is the one you specified in the server as the listening port, if you put 8080 or 1234 as the port you put that, if you put the console port number (config) you will be serving up your server login box to people.

Youcan remote administer your Abyss server, so becareful as to the port you put in your address.

You would be better off getting a DNS address , that way you can pre-set the port number in the address you use and that way you only need to give out one address, you can change the port as often as you like without running the risk of loosing of having to issue a new IP address each time it either changes, changes port and you will make sure that people cant login to your server configuration.

www.dyndns.org for your free DNS service, you will need to make sure you have the normal DNS sevice and the webhop service (also free)

What you do is this

apply for an account, acctivate it and them register a Domanin name from the static or Dynamic addresses.

Get a web hop Domanin name.

what ou do is make the dns name you register = your IP
the web hop to = http://dns_name:portnumber

So your webhop will look like

http://your_webhop_name.webhop.net

or

http://www.your_webhop_name.webhop.net

or plain old

www.your_webhop_name.webhop.net

you then only need to serve up the webhop address as it will automatically redirect to your DNS name on port number you have pre-set

A DNS name is like a token, the token has your IP address and all you are doing is making a more memorable address and also limiting the abuse your IP acn recieve as any attempt to connect to another port by using the webhop name to another port number will result in an error.

When using the webhop, use the cloak option to mask the trye URL to your server, it looks niceer and it wont reveal your URL in the address bar.

Hows that? a quick DNS lesson and port assignment in one easy lesson!
