This has to do with the service you are using to host your web site.
The server software on the host server is not creating the ads and Abyss is such a package and it does not create ads.

I can't justify (at least at present) purchasing the commercial version (X2) but I'd like to donate $10 or $15 (US dollars) for the free version (X1).

Yes, as I said in my post, that was the problem - there was a copy running which no longer was showing as a "Application" (in the Task Manager Applications tab) and had to be killed via task ... |
